Fraga da Água d’Alta waterfall
The Fraga de Água d’Alta is located close to Orvalho in the municipality of Oleiros, on the Água d’Alta Stream, originating in the Muradal Mountain. The 50 meter drop with three falls can be observed up close and from the viewpoint located above the waterfall, at Cabeça Murada [Walled Head].
Here, the biodiversity is remarkable, among it the remnants of the Laurissilva forest that covered southwest Europe before the glaciations, and which currently only persists in rare places, such as the laurustinus and one of largest Portuguese laurel populations left in the world.
