PR2 SRT Schist Walking Trail:Pedrógão Pequeno - The Zêzere Trail

Anti-clockwise:The route starts at the marketplace of Pedrógão Pequeno and takes us to the shore of the Zêzere river via an old Roman road. At the end of the descent we recommend a short detour to the Filipin bridge. The route continues by Trilho da Levada ('water trail', or canal) to Moinho das Freiras, passing through a tunnel. At the exit of the tunnel, the descent to Moinho das Freiras can be made by sealed road or by a path that follows the river's edge, returning on the reverse side. Again on the path of Moinho das Freiras, we begin the ascent to the Aldeia do Painho. Upon reaching the old community laundry and turning left, there are some small shrines. Turning left again, we enter a pine forest. After 1 km, the route leaves the sealed road at the Aveleiras fountain, returning to the pine forest along a path on the right. After a few metres we reach a tunnel going under the IC8, and the trail returns to the starting point in the village of Pedrogão Pequeno.Clockwise:Leaving Pedrogão Pequeno, the route heads towards a narrow street leading to the pedestrian tunnel underneath the IC8. Exiting the tunnel continue straight ahead and the first path on the right is a trail that leads to the Aveleiras fountain. The path then leads to the village of Painho. After the last village houses, the route continues on a dirt road that leads to the sealed road to Moinho das Freiras. You take the road to the end, after crossing the small trail along the river leading to the picnic ground of Moinho das Freiras, next to the tunnel. Passing through this tunnel to Trilhos da Levada, after which a detour is recommended to appreciate the bridge. The return to Pedrogão Pequeno is via a Roman road.
