Connecting the Aldeia do Xisto of Barroca, in the municipality of Fundão, to Dornelas do Zêzere, in the municipality of Pampilhosa da Serra, this stretch is 4.8km. 300 metres ahead, the GRZ leaves the company of the PR1 FUN and starts the descent towards the river. After passing by the Intermodal Station, it rejoins the small route and the routes cross the pedestrian bridge over the Zêzere together. The route continues on, passing by a Landscape reader and near a small dam. After crossing an area of meadows and gardens, the route takes the road towards Dornelas do Zêzere. 

Author’s recommendation

Stroll through the narrow streets of the central village core and visit the Interpretive Centre for Prehistoric Art at Poço do Caldeirão.

Barroca still has a rural air to it, defined by its agricultural cycles, and it is here that you'll find the Schist Villages' Network headquarters and Shop. Barroca is very much still a rural environment, marked by its agricultural cycles. This is the head office for the Aldeias do Xisto network of shops. The schist dwellings, the river Zêzere, the pine forest and an unobstructed view of the mounds at Cabeço do Pião confer a characteristic charm to this Aldeia do Xisto. Take the opportunity to visit the Interpretation Centre for Prehistoric Art at Poço do Caldeirão and learn all about the rock engravings etched into the rocks of Zêzere thousands of years ago.

In Dornelas, relax on the shores of the riverside beach and visit the Ethnographic Museum.
