Tips and hints
Foz da Ribeira da Sertã is the union of the parishes of Cernache Bonjardim, Nesperal and Palhais, in Sertã Municipality, where the Ribeira da Sertã flows into the River Zêzere. The Ribeira da Sertã springs up in Oleiros Municipality, passes near the village of the same name and continues its course in the municipality that gave it its name until it flows into the River Zêzere. This town once had a medicinal mineral water operation, renowned for curing diabetes, a water bottling industry, and a spa hotel. Foz da Sertã water is the only medicinal mineral water known to exist in the municipality. In the late nineteenth century, a mineral water operation was set up and the water was prized for its medicinal characteristics. Later, a spa hotel and a water bottling plant were built. The place has been abandoned for many years, but is still very nice for recreational purposes. You cannot leave this region without trying the tigeladas and learning about the handcrafted basketry that is produced there.
The route ends in Moinhos da Ribeira. This small village is so named because it has mills all along the course of the stream and the small streams that flow into it. The stream going through this village is called the Sertã stream and this is the last place it flows through before finding its way to its mouth in Foz da Sertã.
