This is a excellent route to enjoy the existing flora and catch a glimpse of the very varied birds that are characteristic of the region. After travelling 700 metres, the GRZ goes back on to paved roads and the same distance here will take you to Bioucas. After narrow passages between houses and garden walls, we leave this town. Through pine plantations, fruit trees, like fig trees and cherry trees, vineyards and cultivated fields, both on roads and forest paths, the route will pass through the villages of Castillo and Carreira do Mato, to access a Rest Area situated near Cabeça Gorda.

Tips and hints
Located on a plateau near the River Zêzere, 17 km from Abrantes. Its strategic location makes it a good lookout point, which gave it considerable military significance, in particular for General Conde de Lippe’s resistance plans against the French invasion. This place is a veritable natural paradise, surrounded by pine groves, with a rich ecosystem resulting from varied vegetation (pine, eucalyptus, arbutus, heather, olive trees and other tree species) and the excellent conditions for the development of fish species. On foot, you can enjoy the existing flora and catch a glimpse of the very varied birds that are characteristic of the region, including the rare Red-Necked Nightjar, the Goshawk, the White Stork and the Osprey.
At the Cabeça Gorda rest area, you can enjoy the swimming area, a recreational and leisure facility par excellence with excellent conditions for fishing.
